Las Vegas as a golf destination? It wasn't always the case like it is today. In the 60s, a mere handful of clubs were open to the public, few of them worth a day trip away from Freemont Street. Today, more than 60 courses litter the Las Vegas area, many just 20 minutes from where the action is on The Strip.

Henderson, a suburb 15 minutes south of Las Vegas has felt the golf rebirth the greatest. America's fastest growing city from 1999-2002, the suburb saw many communities sprout up in the late 90s, many with high-profile courses as the centerpiece. Henderson is also considered the place to go if you're looking for a bargain. While many courses use their high-profile designer or hotel to charge top dollar, others reward golfers willing to make the short drive off The Strip by shaving a little off the top of their greens fee.

Anthem Country Club is a private golf course located 15 miles south of the Las Vegas strip in Henderson, but does offer limited public play. Designed by Hale Irwin and Keith Foster, the course has beautiful views of the Las Vegas Valley. Shot variety and elevation changes are abundant on this 7,267-yard design, which plays winding through canyons, six lakes, artificial waterfalls and the vistas of the Anthem community. The club is also just 10 minutes from McCarran International Airport.
