Black Mountain Golf and Country Club

Golf didn't always complement Las Vegas as an adult destination like it does today. In the 60s, merely a handful of clubs were open to the public, few of them worth a day trip away from Freemont Street. Today, more than 60 courses litter the Las Vegas area, many of which just 20 minutes from where the action is on the Strip.

Henderson, a suburb 15 minutes south of Las Vegas has felt Vegas' rebirth the greatest, having been America's fastest growing city from 1999-2002. The suburb saw many communities sprout up in the late 90s, many with high-profile courses as the centerpiece. Henderson is also considered a good place to go if you're looking for deals. While many courses use their high profile designer or hotel to charge top dollar, others reward golfers willing to make the short drive off the strip by shaving a little off the top of their greens fee.

An old gem in the middle of dozens of new courses, Black Mountain Golf and Country Club still stands on its own after over 40 years in Henderson, south of the Las Vegas Strip. Black Mountain boasts its image as a "blue-collar" country club, and does have public play. The original front nine is wide open, while the back nine is heavily wooded and plays much tighter. The first three holes on the back nine is the most difficult stretch at Black Mountain. The third oldest course in Las Vegas, Black Mountain has also hosted numerous U.S. Open Qualifiers and other professional tournaments.
